What is a Pow-Wow?
For Native American people Pow-Wows are used to celebrate and honor veterans, warriors, our mothers-keepers of the blood, and our children who will carry on the traditions and customs long after our elders have passed on to the Creator.
It is a time for all Native Americans to come together and share our culture and beliefs while respecting each others differences; a time to renew old friendships and to build new ones. It is also an opportunity for Native American people to educate others about our culture. To others a Pow-Wow may appear to be entertainment and theatrics, however, it is a serious expression of our religious beliefs and traditions.
Although it may appear as if the dances are unrehearsed and sporadic, they contain symbolic conscious acts that express the dancers own experiences and stories.
